Youssef, a newly single father, struggles to raise his children after the death of his wife. However, everything changes when he stumbles upon videos his wife had recorded to help him with the children.
When I first started watching Catalogue, I liked it. But halfway through, I realized it wasn't my first time watching it. Here's the thing: At the center of the plot is Youssef, a heartbroken, workaholic father of two. He lost his wife Amina, who was also a mother of children. Now he doesn't know how to live without her. How could he? He was so used to her taking care of everything that he had no idea he'd have to take care of other things one day, too.
Stars: Mohamed Farrag, Tara Emad, Khaled Kamal
From birthdays to pickups and deliveries, it's clear Youssef is having a hard time. But his wife was an intelligent woman. She knew her husband's capabilities and skills. Before she passed away, she recorded videos in which Amina explains everything to Youssef. However, even with that, the family misses Amina terribly. And the biggest question that arises is: will Youssef be able to adjust to all of this? Will he now become a more emotionally accessible father to his children? Despite his imperfections and his inability to connect pony stories, Youssef must learn to be both a father and a mother to them.
Now that you know what's going on, I'm sure most will agree that this isn't a new plot. Movies like Fatherhood, starring Kevin Hart, tackle the same topic. And while the video recording may be a little odd, it's something we've explored before. At this point, audiences are looking for something new, something out of the ordinary. Deliberately touching on sensitive topics doesn't mean it always works. The catalog is the same.
For a quick watch, you can continue. Eight episodes flew by. And most importantly, if you enjoy watching shows that tackle grief, fatherhood, legacy, and family dynamics, this is the one for you.
As for the acting, the actors do an excellent job. This drama is charged with emotion, and both the adult and child actors manage to capture it masterfully. From seeing a husband mourning his wife to young children mourning their mother, we see a range of emotions at different ages. Each age has a different way of dealing with loss and death. This play is a perfect representation of this. We also see what a great mother Amina was, not to mention her consideration for Youssef. She knew the difficulties he would face and therefore made his life easier in the best way possible.
