Directed by Engin Erden, Chasing the Wind suffers from an inauthentic script and cliché-filled conflicts, but somehow makes up for it with its aesthetic setting, exceptional cinematography, and an appealing cast. The film follows the life of a successful businesswoman who is faced with the challenge of finding a way out of a difficult situation and saving her business. So, let’s find out what happened in the film and whether Asli, the protagonist, was able to save her company from drowning in debt.
Asli, along with her father, Arif, and Nazmi (who was her father’s friend), were running a successful business, though in recent years, due to certain bad investments, the company had suffered huge losses. The CFO had embezzled a huge sum of money and Asli was in talks with the Maltese authorities to get her money back, as the CFO had probably made certain investments there. Asli was dating the company’s legal advisor, Cenk, and he informed everyone about the problems that could arise if they did not get that money back. Nazmi and Arif called a meeting and informed Asli that they had something in mind to cover the losses for the following year.

The company owned a property in Cesme and Nazmi told Asli that a reputable hotel franchise was interested in buying the land and opening a five-star hotel there. The problem was that Nazmi’s son, Ege Yazici, was staying there and was on the board of directors, and he was absolutely against the sale of the property. Asli told her uncle and father that she could go to Cesme and try to convince the guy. Asli was pretty sure that she could convince Ege, probably because she had taken him for a rich brat who was being stubborn. Asli was a little surprised when she couldn’t find anything about Ege on social media platforms. The man led a very private life and no one had any idea what he was doing in Cesme, why he decided to stay away from his family business, and why his father wasn’t on speaking terms with him.
Asli arrived in Cesme and went to eat at a restaurant near her hotel, not knowing that the place belonged to Ege Yazici. Ege and Asli met at the restaurant and the former realized who he was but decided not to say anything to him about it. There was a drunk man in the restaurant who made some lewd remarks to Asli and then misbehaved with her.
Ege intervened and asked her business partner, Yaman, to escort the man out of the place. Ege and Asli started talking and the latter became attracted to him. Ege accompanied Asli back to her hotel and when she asked him to come in, he very politely declined the request. Ege did not want to mix business with pleasure as he knew things would get complicated if something happened between him and Asli. The next day, Asli went to Ege’s beachside hut where he gave surf training to people.
She was surprised to find Ege as she possibly had a very different image of him in her mind. Ege told Asli in advance that he was not going to sell the property, even if it meant the board of directors would declare war on him. He told her that he did not want to upset the ecological balance and serenity of the place; he did not want to block the air by building a tall building, and above all, he did not want capitalists to forcibly commercialize the area and ruin it.
One thing that was abundantly clear was that Ege was not a greedy man or a spoiled rich kid. In fact, he had not touched his share of the money he inherited from his family business. He told Asli that she and the others would probably never realize what this place meant to him, but that he was not going to give in until his last breath. So, Asli, having no other choice, decided to prolong her trip in the hope that she could change Ege’s mind. But, unprecedentedly, instead of changing his mind, he let himself be influenced so much that he began to question his life choices. Asli signed up for surfing lessons and began seeing Ege regularly. Asli began to understand his way of life, what he liked to do in his free time, why he was not part of the family business and why he was so against the construction of the hotel in Cesme.
Once, Asli accompanied Ege to the house of one of her family friends because she just wanted to spend as much time with him as possible so that she could change his mind about not selling his property. Ferrus and her husband Korkmaz were like Ege's parents. They owned a vineyard in the city and shared a very close bond with Ege because they had known him since he was a child. Ferrus told Asli that Nazmi, Ege's father, was somehow responsible for ruining Figen's (Ege's mother) life. Ferrus told Asli that Figen was a very good singer and she had wanted to follow her passion but Nazmi never allowed her to do so.
