Tiger Stripes 2024 Movie Review Trailer Poster

People's responses have generally been mildly positive, but many have experienced that this is not a horror movie and there aren't many scares. It's more of a coming-of-age story than a horror story, so keep that in mind. This film won the Critics' Week Grand Prize and, having seen it, I understand why.

Director Amanda Nell Eu does a pretty good job in another debut coming-of-age story of a 12-year-old girl who goes through some strange changes and situations with some gorgeous, colorful camera work, sound designs, themes, and atmospheres, and a good performance by the main actress.

Malaysian cinema is not often talked about and I have rarely seen films from the country and having learned about its culture and background, the film does a good job of capturing the setting, atmosphere, culture and beliefs with some interesting choices and daring, like discussions about periods. and show the sexuality of Malaysian girls. Throughout, Nell Eu's direction was quite good in handling narrative, sound, atmosphere, and concepts. While some concepts are a bit cliche of certain horror tropes, the narrative worked for the most part.

The acting is pretty good and the kids' performances are all solid. The sound designs are good, the characters, although a little weak, are still interesting and engaging to watch, and it has a good score. The film explores horror themes, but admittedly, since it's more of a coming-of-age story, the horror elements didn't feel as strong or ambitious as they could have been. Including some notably bad CGI.

Overall, despite the flaws, I enjoyed this film for its ambitious style, concept, and the direction it took. Once again, this is not your typical horror movie, but rather a coming of age movie.

The Acolyte 2024 Tv Series Review Trailer Poster

There are three main types of Star Wars stories. There's the kind where you write whatever you want and call it Star Wars, common in the many novels published in the 1990s. There's the kind where you recycle existing Star Wars stories and make them familiar; this has been the primary way of doing things at Disney. But finally, there are the stories that enthusiastically use Star Wars as a setting to create something new. There have been several novels that fit that profile, as did the first season of Andor, and now, four episodes in, it looks like the new Star Wars series The Acolyte, set a century before the movies, also fits the bill. in that category. . The Acolyte centers on a pair of twins, Osha and Mae (both played by Amandla Stenberg). The girls were raised by an unaffiliated coven of Force users, but despite living outside the Republic, the Jedi, including Carrie-Ann Moss's Indara, stuck their noses into these women's affairs, leading to the disaster.
