Originally sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to the second-degree murder of her mother, Dee Dee, Gypsy Blanchard claimed she was a victim of her mother's abuse. She alleged that Dee Dee suffered from Munchausen syndrome by proxy, inventing diseases such as leukemia, asthma, and muscular dystrophy for Gypsy.
During Blanchard's trial, she and her then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, were convicted of conspiring to murder Dee Dee. Godejohn stabbed and killed her in her home, leading to her conviction for first-degree murder and life in prison. Blanchard, now 32, was recently released on parole.

In a recent interview with People, Gypsy Blanchard expressed her regret over her role in the conspiracy to kill her mother. She stated: “No one will ever hear me say I'm glad she's dead or that I'm proud of what I did. I regret it every day.”
Blanchard acknowledged that her mother was a sick woman and admitted: “She didn't deserve that. She was a sick woman and, unfortunately, I was not educated enough to see that. “She deserved to be where I am, in prison serving time for criminal conduct.”
