Tarek works as a computer scientist in an office. Due to the many overtime hours, his relationship with his wife has cooled. When a handsome intern starts and develops feelings for her, he decides to enroll in a resort where they will secretly bond, or so they promise. But once there, mysterious things begin to happen.
Several Aussies lent their not inconsiderable talents to The Matchmaker, but you wonder if it was worth it. This rather unbelievable romantic comedy stars Janeane Garofalo as Marcy Tizard, an assistant to a vapid American politician, Jay .O. Sanders, who is running for re-election and who needs the Irish vote in his Massachusetts constituency. So he sends Marcy, without any hotel reservations by the way, to the Irish town of Ballinagra, where his family apparently hails from.
Director: Abdulmohsen Aldhabaan
Stars: Husam Al Harthi, Reem Al Habib, Nour Alkhadra
It is a miracle that Marcy finds lodgings, for Ballinagra is in the middle of a matchmaking festival, but she stays behind and begins a fruitless search for her chief ancestors, all the while finding herself, as an eligible single woman, a desirable addition to the matchmaking. festivities... With names like Mark Joffe directing and Louis Nowra co-writing, she expected a lot more from The Matchmaker. Aside from the plot's many improbabilities, this is a remarkably bland romantic comedy, filled with the most stereotypical Irish "characters" seen on screen since The Quiet Man, and what was charming and funny in 1953 doesn't seem so charming today. I couldn't figure out what the hell Marcy sees in Sean or why Milo OShea is overreacting as much as Dermot, the main matchmaker. Thank goodness for Ellery Ryan's beautiful panoramic photography.
