Dreux finishes the night shift at Norm’s Diner and waits for her best friend, Alyssa, to pick her up. Alyssa arrives with a list of excuses because she assumes she’s late. However, Dreux lied about the pick-up time. Dreux hopes to rest at home because she has an interview at 4 p.m. today to become a franchise manager. She knows that most managers have degrees, but Alyssa assures Dreux that no one is better than her. Dreux remembers that it’s the first of the month and asks if Alyssa paid her landlord, Uche. Alyssa says yes.
Dreux walks into her complex and sees her braider, Jameel, styling another woman’s hair. She’s upset that Jameel didn’t finish hers. He promises to get to Dreux when she pays him. Dreux walks to Mama Ruth’s apartment to get snacks. Dreux stops when she sees her crush, Maniac, approaching. After he leaves, Mama Ruth laughs at Dreux and tells her to ask him out. However, Dreux knows about his past and wants to avoid him. Dreux walks into her apartment and trips on Keshawn's sneakers. She's furious that Alyssa's boyfriend asked her to stay for six days six months ago. He hasn't helped pay for anything and puts his shoes everywhere, including on Alyssa's paintings. Dreux thinks Keshawn is disrespectful, but Alyssa says his paintings aren't good enough.

Dreux lays down on the bed and puts on her sleep mask. Then, she hears knocking on the door. It's Uche demanding rent. He says Alyssa didn't pay him. They must pay him by 6 p.m. or he'll evict them. Dreux knocks on Alyssa's bedroom door. She admits that she gave the money to Keshawn to pay off Uche. They turn to look at Keshawn, but he and his sneakers are gone. Alyssa calls Keshawn, but the phone rings in his drawer. He left it behind to avoid her. They unlock the phone and find text messages from a girl named Berniece. Alyssa heard a rumor from Jameel that Keshawn was cheating on her with Berniece.
Dreux and Alyssa break into Berniece's house using a scam. Alyssa finds Keshawn asleep with his wallet between his knees. She looks inside and it's empty. Alyssa wakes Keshawn up and he admits that he used the rent money to make fake Gucci t-shirts called Cucci. Alyssa attacks Keshawn and her screams alert Berniece. Berniece chases them out of her house, but stops when she crashes into a parked car. Alyssa and Dreux escape. Berniece stands up and sees the people in the neighborhood laughing and filming her. She vows to find Alyssa and Dreux and attack them. Dreux and Alyssa, thinking Berniece will forget about them, must create a plan to make $1500 in 9 hours and get Dreux to her interview in 7 hours. They will fight, negotiate, bleed, and test their friendship before the day is over.
Alyssa and Dreux considered every possible option to get the rent money. They try to apply for payday loans, donate blood, and sell things online. However, two steps forward lead them to one step back. It's all for a reason. Unlike some comedies, every scene has a purpose and comes full circle. So, you must come see this movie on time or you'll miss critical plot points. This day brings their friendship to the ultimate test. They believe each other can be more, but they don't believe in themselves. This movie has constant laughs and shows the family aspect of the underprivileged neighborhoods. The plot intersperses heart, life lessons, comedy and perseverance at the right moments. The script allows itself to be serious but does not become preachy. This movie is not for the whole family, but it is an entertaining evening for adults.
